Repair broken or cracked teeth
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure to treat an infection at the centre of a tooth. This could result in the tooth needing to be extracted.
Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury. If the tooth is infected in this way, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth and may even lead to an abscess. This could result in the tooth needing extraction.
It is usually best to keep as many natural teeth as possible and root canal treatment is usually very successful at this. The aim of this treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal; the root is then cleaned and filled to prevent further infection.
